Credit By Examination

Credit By Examination allows students the opportunity to gain academic credit for knowledge acquired by self-study or experience.

Two types of examinations may be taken for credit at UNO; the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and UNOs Special Departmental Examination Program which involves "challenging" courses taught at UNO by taking exams prepared by the department.

Restrictions apply and interested individuals should read the Credit by Examination at UNO Brochure and the Information for Candidates CLEP bulletin.

Fees are: (CLEP Civilian) $70 for each exam, plus a $20 non-refundable Center registration fee and $10 fee for each optional essay; (CLEP Military Personnel) CLEP exams and optional essays are free for military personnel with proper ID (*see below). The $20 Center registration fee is still required. (Departmental Challenge) There is a $25 charge for each Departmental Exam. Also a fee equal to 50% of current resident tuition is charged to students earning credit by examination. The test fee for Departmental Exams is applied to the overall cost for credit earned.
